It went to the shootout Sunday afternoon, and the Philadelphia Flyers walked away the victors in a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers.
The win pushed Philadelphia into seventh spot in the Eastern Conference standings and knocked New York out of contention.
That leaves the Montreal Canadiens in the final playoff slot, where they will square off against the Washington Capitals starting Thursday in D.C.
The teams split the season series, with each team winning one game in regulation.
In their last meeting, the Canadiens snapped the Capitals team record 14-game unbeaten streak.

Interesting to note that Carey Price started every game against Washington. Will Jacques Martin revert back to him, or stick with the current “number one” in Jaroslav Halak?
It will also be interesting to see how the Capitals Ovechkin responds in the playoffs. The two-time Hart Trophy winner lost out on both the Art Ross and Rocket Richard Trophies in the final weekend of the regular season. He may be looking to prove himself as an impact player in the playoffs, at the Canadiens expense.

Honestly, I'll be impressed if they aren't swept. But who knows? Maybe Halak will heat up and shut down the Russian Machine. There's precedent, after all. The 1985-86 team had a shockingly similar regular season record to this bunch, though under the old system a few of those wins would have wound up as ties.
